Ever since my eye surgery(s) I’ve had a legitimate need for a monocle…but I doubt anyone would take me seriously if I wore one. I don’t even know where I’d be able to find one in this day and age. In the 18th century, it was considered high fashion to wear one…true story.

A fan of my work recently told me that he liked my photography because it was crisp and “perfect.” It made me realize that I don’t want to be known for that. I don’t believe in perfection. My life isn’t perfect, and I believe that should be reflected in the images I create.
In this set that I call “Torn, but not Shattered,” I decided to take a step back in editing: blow out the highlights, make things grainy, make a beautiful perfectly exposed photograph ugly. There is beauty in imperfection. Sometimes only ugliness can make that apparent. -
Oh yeah…I also recently did an interview for a local magazine. It’s centered around the youth with an interest in the arts. It’ll be published next month!

I’m always trying to challenge myself with different ways to approach taking a fashion photo. In this case I used my iPhone for my shoot yesterday. I think you can still create a great image, even with a cell phone, if you’ve got down the basics of lighting and composition. -

Here’s a preview from a set I call “The Rust Belt.” You imagine photographers going to exotic locations like beaches and deserts, right? Not me. Chelsea and I took a road trip to the back alley of a grocery store and did this ;)
Just had eye surgery last week, so I have to put off editing this set when my vision is 100% again.

I noticed that I have some new followers. I just want you to know that you’re awesome.
Now, on to business. These are my latest Polaroids. They develop underexposed and have a blue tint to them. I suspect I got a bad pack of film. That’s what I get for buying experimental film I suppose….
I’m interested in trying the silver shade film from TIP. Maybe that’s what I’ll buy next since this color stuff isn’t working out too well.

It’s crazy…I started doing fashion photog in an unexpected way. It all started in my room about a year ago. I practiced depth of field in my room using Star Wars Lego figures and my desk lamp as a light source. Little did I know that I was training myself to manipulate light and shadow. Now I take pictures of beautiful people in a studio with professional studio strobes.
I wonder where I’ll be in another year haha! May the force be with me :D
